William B. Crosby papers, 1812-1818.

Consisting of letters, 18 Dec. 1812 - 18 May 1818, addressed to William B. Crosby, in New York, from friends and family members in Charleston, S.C. Four letters from the Rev. Dr. Andrew Flinn (1773-1820), pastor of Charleston's Second Presbyterian Church, include that of 15 Feb. 1814, reporting the death of the Rev. Dr. Isaac S. Keith, pastor of Charleston's Independent Circular Congregational Church, and letter, 14 July 1817, giving details of weather and meteorological conditions that were adversely affecting crops in South Carolina: following years of drought, Flinn reports that excessive rains and flooding destroyed the cotton and corn crops, "In many places the crops of Indian corn, which is the principal stuff of bread, have been totally destroyed. There will not, I think, be an average of one half crop, perhaps not one third of a crop, of Cotton. I greatly fear that the provision crop will be little better." The decision by W[illiam] N. Clarkson to study medicine at Philadelphia, Pa., is the topic of a letter, 18 Dec. 1812.
